Project: Museum, Collections Storage and Auditorium
Location: 200 Eastern Parkway, Brooklyn, New York Services Performed: Project Manager Architect: Arata Isozaki/James Stewart Polshek & Partners This is a landmarked institution constructed in the 1890's which required total renovation and rehabilitation including all new M.E.P. systems with a particular emphasis on climate control sensitivity and of course, aesthetic excellence. It was a phased project carried out in four stages. Throughout the entire project the museum continued to operate normally. This was a particular challenge due to the sensitive nature of the collection, which cannot be subjected to dust, vibrations or swings in humidity and temperature. The project also necessitated a very sizable asbestos removal contract. Since opening the New Cantor Auditorium has received much public acclaim and several prestigious awards in the architectural press world. SHA was the main liaison on behalf of the Museum between the City of New York, the design and construction teams. The project was carried out using a public/private initiative. |
